Hazel Blooms

Hazel's original homestead flowers and shrubs continue to bloom every year.  We are anticipating many of her Pale Pink Roses later this month, and her Bouncing Bets throughout summer.  The Yellow Roses are spreading -- to cover the pile of boulders that were her cabin's foundation.

Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart;

I breathe at this hour the fragrance of the lilacs,

the violets, and the roses, as at twenty years ago.  Victor Hugo

Lilacs and Roses

The fragrance of the old homestead lilacs and roses was strong in the air April 27 through June 27, 2016.  Surely you must smell them as you stroll through the slide show!

The original homestead garden was still hanging on when we arrived in 1990.  As Joe manages the irrigation run-off as of old, the flowers, trees and shrubs thrive.  The roses transplanted easily and are vigorous in all locations.  Every year we revel in all the stages and weather-related nuances of the lilac and rose life cycles.
